I'm ashamed of America right now. The time was November 1. There was still candy lingering on the streets from the night before. I leave the confines of the Adcenter...do the sight of men putting up garland on the light poles.
November 1.
It's now the 16th and it just keeps getting worse. Santa's mall seat was almost ready, people are wearing christmas sweaters, the radio has switched to Christmas only songs, and - of course - 18 million Christmas commercials.
As a future adman, I plan to abolish this. What happened to the Christmas season starting the DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING?! And further more, why am I subjected to the annoyance of Christmas cheer in the medium of commercials, but I'll be damned if I can find my favorite Christmas shows before Christmas Eve? If you're going to make me participate in the holiday advertising, then give me back my Christmas Story, my Charlie Brown, AND MY GARFIELD. Give me back "It's a Wonderful Life," and give it to me at least once a day. Give me back the joys of Christmas, the snow, the times where it wasn't just about consumerism.
